Evergreen Roofing

DESCRIPTION:
The pre-shift inspection of every forklift must be in-writing and involves three basic steps:
1.) The Walk-Around
2.) Engine Check
3.) Controls Check
These are outlined and spelled out in-detail in this concise video.

Here is a free, paperless, forklift inspection form that you and your team can use to properly document your forklift inspection each day. It emails you and/or anyone you choose a PDF.
TIPS FOR MAKING YOUR TRAINING FUN:
Make sure you go over the specifics of your forklifts with your crew after viewing this video. Before and/or after showing this video, you can ask some of the following questions and try to get your team to mention these points or even other tips not mentioned below.
Mention items such as:
a.) Not letting the propane forklifts idle unnecessarily to reduce CO buildup.
b.) Never exiting the lift without applying the emergency/parking brake.
c.) Not getting further than 25’ away from your forklift or letting it get out of your sight unless you properly park it with the forks down and the key removed.
d.) At the very end of this video, observe how Turbo properly exits the forklift facing it like a ladder. That creates a great habit for getting in and out of trucks or any other heavy equipment. You need to be facing it so you have something to hold and grab onto if you slip. If you exit facing outwards, then if you slip you have nothing to hold onto!
e.) When testing the fork controls, you should raise the forks all the way up. This video shows just raising them about 4-5 feet.
f.) Consider the additional details and safety concerns related to electric forklifts:
+ Charging areas being properly ventilated.
+ The system and training required to be able to hook up the batteries for charging.
+ The organization and marking/tagging system your company has to designate charged batteries from uncharged batteries.
+ Do you charge the batteries while in the lift? If so, what is the procedure?
+ Do you remove the batteries in order to charge them? If so, what about the hoist inspection and battery removal area? What are the procedures? Those batteries are extremely heavy and contain chemicals.
g.) What site-specific concerns do you have in your plant, shop or work area? Ramps? Railroad tracks? Using forklifts outdoors? Or indoors only? Ice? Condition of pavement? Loading docks?
h.) What about loading trucks? Chocking wheels? Locking trailers to building? Procedures? Communication with drivers?
i.) Pedestrian traffic in forklift areas?
j.) Don't peel out when driving the lift.
k.) Don't look at your phone or talk on the phone while operating a forklift.
l.) Never turn while forks are elevated. Always lower the forks before turning.
This video highlights how important it is to buckle up. Perhaps some don’t think it’s that important. Have a discussion and if people still belittle the importance of the seatbelt and forklift inspection, please show them OSHAFLIX Video 0622E - True Story - Operator Falls out - Runaway Forklift - Jade Lewis.
What else needs to be mentioned based on your experience?
