0160 E - Horseplay - Forklift NO-NOs - Alcohol - Safety Culture - Teamwork
Attitude, Mindset & Values

This video finishes up addressing Horseplay and inappropriate behavior on a job site or workplace:
1.) No standing on forks or riding the lift.
2.) One person only on a lift.
3.) Never raise anyone on the forks.
4.) Never drink alcohol and come to work or drink alcohol on the job.
The video reminds and encourages people to come to work rested because we affect each other, we need each other, and we depend on each other at work, at home, and while driving on the road! Each of us affect the future of the loved ones and families of the people around us. So let’s work together as a team and get each other’s back.
TIPS ON HOW TO USE THIS VIDEO:
Always look to create curiosity before showing the videos in your toolbox talk. Ask your team to look or listen for something that is in the video. Then afterward debrief it by asking people to give the answers to what they heard or saw. This has helped me get wonderful participation during my toolbox talks and training throughout the years.
Before showing this video, ask your team if they have ever stepped on the forks of a forklift while it has been elevated. Or ask something similar. If somebody starts to tell a story, let him talk. Otherwise, just let them take it in as a challenging question to think about.
After the video, ask a challenging open-ended question (one that requires more than a one-word, yes/no response) that you decided upon in advance to promote discussion. Some examples are:
1.) What close calls have you experienced on account of horseplay relating to any tool or piece of equipment?
2.) Which is worse: Drinking and driving, looking at your phone while driving, or sleepy driving? If their answer is, "They are all the same"; then quickly come back with, "Then why do we do it?" Or the more poignant, "Then why do you do it?"
3.) What crazy things have you done personally or have witnessed others do with a forklift?
Be creative as you craft good, open-ended questions. And have fun with it. These three questions and others like them are some awesome, open-ended questions that have produced untold hours of discussion in my safety training over the years.
