DESCRIPTION:
This fast-paced video lays the foundation and gives an introduction for the major hazards for commercial roofers. It emphasizes why safety is important, especially fall protection. We hear from 5 company leaders from Evergreen Roofing. This video gives some nationwide statistics in the construction industry on falls, the most attention-grabbing one being that 1 out of every 3 construction-worker deaths is a fall.

This video lays out the three-fold approach to prevent falls at this company:
1.) Planning
2.) Training
3.) Providing PPE

The JHA (Job Hazard Analysis) is introduced and briefly explained as part of the Planning.

TIPS ON HOW TO PROMOTE DISCUSSION:
Always look to create curiosity before showing any video in your toolbox talk or safety-orientation. Ask your team to look or listen for something that is in the video. Then afterward debrief it by asking people to give the answers to what they heard or saw. This has proven to foster great participation when I’ve conducted training over the years.

Before showing this video, I suggest asking your team to identify something that caught their attention or something they would like to know more about. That should be sufficient to help teach new people to the roofing industry about something that interests them. Afterward, be sure to emphasize what you know to be important concepts about roofing and fall protection that you know each of your team members needs to know.
