DESCRIPTION:
In this powerful video, Steve tackles a major safety issue that’s often overlooked: keeping broken or damaged equipment lying around. He warns that if something’s broken -especially something like electrical cables- you need to destroy it before tossing it out. Why? Because someone else might take it, thinking it's still good to use, and that puts them in serious danger. Steve makes it clear: "We all love free stuff," but the reality is, keeping unsafe equipment around is a disaster waiting to happen. Whether it’s tagging it for removal, fixing it, or outright destroying it—don’t let unsafe gear make it into someone else’s hands. Protect your team by getting rid of what’s no longer safe. It’s a simple step that can prevent a huge risk. Take responsibility for the safety of everyone on the job and make sure nothing dangerous stays in circulation.
HOW TO INTRODUCE AND DEBRIEF THIS:
It’s almost always best to set up and debrief a video. This means before you show the video; give them something to look for, write down, remember, or list out from the video. Basically, you’re giving your crew something to look for to their raise curiosity such as, “About halfway through this video, listen carefully for what Steve says about what happened as a result of not paying attention to where you’re pushing the mobile stairs.” This is what I mean by set up the video. Now they are paying more attention! And you are guaranteeing participating when you debrief (or discuss) the video after showing it because your people already know they are looking for something or they were supposed to write something down (or remember one thing from the video). Be yourself. Have fun with it. Vary your methods each time. See what works best with your audience.
