DESCRIPTION:
In this amazing story, we hear a foremen with decades of experience tell how he fell out of a forklift while it was running.
TIPS ON PROMOTING PARTICIPATION:
You always want to arouse curiosity before showing a video so people pay more attention and have something to comment on afterward. Before showing this video, I suggest asking them to look for the following, "What are two obvious signs that he should never have operated this forklift." Or "What were two of the main reasons why he decided to use this forklift." After the video, get them to give their comments or answers to these questions. Then -as always- apply it to your job, your equipment, your work environment. You can talk about borrowing other contractors lifts. What is your company rule on that? What about inspection? What about putting into practice your training? This was a massive close call. This man could have easily died as he said if the forklift had run over him. Challenge people to put these simple things that they know into practice: Inspection, mirrors, seatbelt, brakes, deciding to remove equipment from job site before something catastrophic happens, etc.
